Goldfish Bin Bags

goldfish bin bagsFollowing on from yesterdays novelty bin bags post, here’s something a little more year-round for you!

Same price and quantity as the Christmas pud bags, but these goldfish bin bags won’t look quite so unseasonal in the middle of summer.

Totally daft – but they make you smile.

Christmas Pudding Bin Bags

christmas pudding bin bagOkay, I know it’s June 21st and it’s still over 180 days until Christmas but I spotted this today and wanted to blog about them.

They’re novelty Christmas pudding bin bags of course! Not particularly cheap at £9.99 for 12 bags but certainly a novel way of bagging up your Christmas rubbish …only the non recyclable stuff of course.

They’d make everyone who walked past them smile I reckon :)

Salt and Pepper Mill Robots

salt pepper robotsThese little robots are novel ! These robotically styled salt and pepper pots only need to be wound up and they’ll trundle across the table to you. Their tummies are full with the two most popular condiments :)

Big Tomato Butter Dish

butterdishI’ve mentioned Big Tomato Company mugs before and here’s another gem in their range. It’s a butter dish with the cheeky slogan butter wouldn’t melt.

A great item for any kitchen and a lovely gift for a grandparent, parent or auntie I’d say.

Poach Pods For Easy Poached Eggs

poach podsSimple, but brilliant. The flexible, silicone Poach Pods making poaching eggs so simple! The Poachpod allows you to float and poach an egg in boiling water like a lily pad on a pond. When the egg is ready, flip the non-stick pod inside out and gently push the perfectly domed shaped egg out.

You can also use Poach Pods to melt chocolate or use them in baking even …they’re heat resistant up to 350 degrees.

These little things great great reviews from poached egg lovers up and down the country :) Less than £5 with free p&p too from ecommerce giant amazon.

Teasmade Offers

teasmadeThe Teasmade might be the object of many a joke but it’s brewing up a bit of a comeback!

Yep, after many a year in the doldrums, the Teasmade started to make a comeback a couple of years ago when John Lewis sold the Micromark Teasmade (like the one pictured) at the rate of one an hour in the run-up to Christmas.

The very first mass-produced version was made by Goblin back in 1933 when it cost the equivalent of £300. You can buy one today for under £50. At it’s most popular two million homes had a Teasmade …presumably nobody liked getting out of bed?

Whilst modern Teasmades are more efficient and reliable they still offer the same functionality that everyone wants:

  • LCD alarm clock with analogue face
  • ceramic pots
  • 2 or 4 cup capacity
  • radio
  • integrated reading light

Fancy waking up in bed with something hot next to you in the morning? Well treat yourself or a loved one to a Teasmade ;)

They’re selling quick and are sometimes out of stock (so if you want one, buy one) so try leading retailers such as:

National Cupcake Week

cupcakeIt’s National Cupcake Week this week – in fact it ends tomorrow.

The Bakery Info site informs us that

“The aim of the week, held September 14-19 2009, is to draw customers’ attention to the many wonderful recipes and exotic toppings available for cupcakes and to tempt both new and existing customers to buy (at least) one during the week!”

But what’s this got to do with a novelty gift site I hear you say? Well, for starters I love cakes, including cupcakes and I wouldn’t mind receiving a box of cupcakes as a gift. Secondly, I mentioned the giant cupcake tin that’s proving to be a bit of hit with you gift-buying bakers out there.

If anyone wants to make me some cupcakes then the BBC has a simple recipe for to follow ;)

Pencil Bookends

bookendsI read about the pencil bookends in the Sunday Telegraph a couple of weeks ago – the colours really caught my eye. I reckon they’d look great in a kitchen propping up some cookery books.

They’re £15 for a pair and available from the V & A shop. This shop is run by the Victoria and Albert museum in London and as such stocks a wide range of products with an art/design slant.

Some of the products are a little pricey and fall outside the novelty gift bracket but they do have many others for under a tenner.

Giant Cupcake Tin

giant cupcake tinMmmm this is an ideal present for me ‘cos I love cupcakes …well, actually I love all sorts of cakes. This giant cupcake tin not surprisingly makes a giant cupcake that you can share with friends and family. Or you could be a Mr Greedy and scoff the lot yourself ;)

This cupcake tin might look like a novelty but it’s actually a professional cake tin. Made by American bake ware specialists Wilton, it’s professional weight, cast aluminium for exceptional detail and has a premium non-stick surface for easy release and cleaning. Wilton offer a lifetime warranty on the tin too. Kindly they even provide a giant cupcake recipe.

So, where can you buy one of these supersize cupcakes tin then? Well, try either prezzybox or Firebox.
